Sarre’ Union, France: March 15 – 24, 1945

Again in tents, the 51st Evac. set up in a field outside the town of Sarre’ Union, and alongside a road on which armored vehicles and troop carriers rumbled forward all night long.

At this location about 2 of 3 operating tables were treating soldiers who had stepped on wooden "shoe mines", usually mangling both feet.

 

 

 

 

A number of civilian casualties also were treated at this location with attendant fatalities.

 

 

 

 

 

After 10 days of operation at this site, orders for our next move were relayed to us by our Chief of Surgery, Lt. Col. McNeil.
