Neustadt, Germany, March 27 – April 1, 1945

After the Allies crossed the Rhine, we were ordered to move into Germany, crossing the Siegfried Line ...

... to occupy a large German military hospital in Neustadt.

We found that our field hospital could not operate efficiently in a conventional hospital, so the military hospital was used for living quarters, and our wards, operating room, X-ray, etc. were set up in the large garages and shops.

After 4 days of operating at the Neustadt military hospital, new orders had us packing for a move across the Rhine.
